Happy Birthday Horace Silver!


On this day in 1928, jazz great and piano legend Horace Silver was born.

Silver was instrumental to the formation and popularity of the hard bop jazz style. He started the The Jazz Messengers, a co-operatively run group with Art Blakey (who would later take over the group), and has played with many jazz legends including Miles Davis.

He is still alive and kickin' today... and his legacy lives on, not just in hard bop, but also for his influence of bossa nova.
