Master of improv and exploration, 'Trane's solo on "Impressions" from 1963, which shares the same chord progression (Dm7, Ebm7) as Miles Davis' "So What" ('Trane also performed in it), is a perfect example of modal jazz. No more restrictions to harmonic or melodic cycles!
