Muddy Waters' Home Renovation Funding Project Underway

The Muddy Waters House in Chicago is on 4339 S. Lake Park. The King of the Blues lived and jammed in this historic home between 1954 and 1974. The house has been in a state of decay for a while now.

However, Muddy’s grandson, Steven Mckinley Monson, has just announced the “Mo Money Mo Blues” campaign to raise funds to restore the home. They are asking for $100,000.

This is a significant landmark for the city of Chicago, as this was the man who set the blues on fire and to mass popularity. It's a shame it hasn't been taken care of in a long time.

The campaign site is over here, and on Facebook here.

Watch the campaign video below, featuring James Cotton, one of Muddy's main band members in the 50's.

TIME Article on Muddy Waters' Legacy

This month, the blues legend Muddy Waters would have turned 100. This great musician, and I keep saying it, was instrumental in changing Western music forever.

TIME Magazine has written as article about him, which you can read [here].

He also passed away on April 30, 1983. So we honor his legacy two times in one month, so here's a live video of "Hoochie Coochie Man', one of the songs that shaped rock n' roll:

Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, & Bo Diddley Join Forces

What do you get when you cross three of the best blues artists of all time?

The album 'The Super Super Blues Band' was released in 1968, as a follow up to the previous release called 'The Super Blues Band' which featured Muddy, Bo, and Little Walter.

This album features group renditions of their classic songs, including Muddy's 'Long Distance Call', Wolf's 'Spoonful', and Bo's 'Diddley Daddy'.

It features a breat back up band featuring Buddy Guy on bass, Hubert Sumlin on guitar, and Otis Spann on piano.

The result is an interesting take on these songs, and it's difficult to imagine these guys working together seeing they all had rivalries within Chess Records and as bluesmen, especially Muddy and Wolf.

Here's 'Going Down Slow', featuring Muddy Waters' signature slide guitar.

New Muddy Waters Compilation, Spans 1958-1963

A new collection has been released featuring Muddy Waters' work with Chess Records, called "You Shook Me - The Chess Masters, Vol. 3, 1958 to 1963".

Some of these tracks from 2 disc album are not that famous nor available easily, which makes it worth buying. It includes songs from the "Live in Newport" album, rated one of the best albums of all time.

You can buy the album [here].

Here's a live version of "Crawling Kingsnake", (studio version is on the album):

Muddy Waters in Family Guy

This is an old clip, but very funny nonetheless :)

Here's how Seth McFarlane and the Family Guy cast poked fun at bluesman Muddy Waters:
